17 more sleeps till San Diego

I’m really excited to get back to my roots as a photographer. La Jolla, California is where I taught myself to photograph the beauty in this world.

Tetons Barn

Tetons

The goal was to capture this famous barn in the Tetons with a different perspective. The storm clouds along with the movement in the grass add the drama for me. The reason for this posting today was influenced by a blog post from a brilliant man, Seth Godin. Seth has helped me in so many ways even though he has no idea who I am. Here is his latest blog post.

Either, not both

Stand out or fit in. Not all the time, and never at the same time, but it’s always a choice.
Those that choose to fit in should expect to avoid criticism (and be ignored). Those that stand out should expect neither.

San Diego

“America’s Finest Evening” is one of my babies from my portfolio. This area in La Jolla is where I taught myself how to photograph. It’s being donated to a fantastic charity that offers support to grieving children and their caregivers. We like to work with charities, so keep us in mind if you’re ever looking for donations.

Bird Eye View

It seems like just yesterday Julie and I were enjoying a typical evening walk at the beach. Since I pretty much have the coolest wife ever who puts up with a geeky husband who drags a camera and tripod everywhere. This image was taken Ocean Beach, California 2009.

Nahant Beach

Nahant Beach is located Northwest of Boston. A beautiful sunrise with some dancing clouds.  [pinterest-pro type=”pinit” pin_url=”http://papekphotography.com/nahant-beach/” pin_image_url=”http://www.papekphotography.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/ScottPapek1.jpg” pin_counter=”horizontal” pin_desc=”Nahant Beach photograph taken by Scott Papek.”]

Celeste river

In the middle of dense tropical forest lies a hidden jewel of Costa Rica. It starts with a walk through the jungle at Tenorio Volcano National Park, in the northwestern Guanacaste province. Every step in this forest is more inviting than the last. During the rainy season, the smell of wet earth permeates the air, droplets of rain fall constantly, and the sounds of exotic birds accompany hikers. After about 15 minutes of walking in the jungle, a new sound becomes audible: Water is flowing and falling somewhere nearby, hinting at one of the park’s treasures. The main trail splits, and a path leads leftward to a steep descent down muddy steps made of sections of tree trunks. After an unexpected turn, the river finally makes an appearance with a surprising turquoise color. Local legend says that when God painted the sky, he washed his blue brushes in this river, and that is how its waters obtained their magnificent blue color. The scientific theory is chemical reactions of calcium carbonate and sulfur from the Volcano.

Carmel Mission

The Mission at Carmel was founded by Father Junípero Serra in 1770 as the second of Spain’s California missions. The original church here was built of adobe and was replaced with the current structure in 1797. This mission was known as Father Serra’s favorite in California, and he is buried at the altar.
This Image was taken in 2010 in Monterey, California.   [pinterest-pro type=”pinit” pin_url=”http://papekphotography.com/carmel-mission/” pin_image_url=”http://www.papekphotography.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/ScottPapek.jpg” pin_counter=”horizontal” pin_desc=”Carmel Mission Church in Monterey, California image taken by Scott Papek”]
