Cloned

Omaha Nebraska photographer Scott Papek traveled to Colorado to capture a gallery print.

Scott Papek proudly presents CLONED. This Image was taken September 2011 in Gunnison National Forest about 35 miles west of Crested Butte, Colorado.

Cloned is a limited edition print and will be sold at one size with only 300 prints available. Cloned is the largest print I’ve ever printed at 36 x 75 and will be

Showcased in a new Eco-Friendly way of mounting and hanging. See it for the first time May 11th at the Hot Shops art Center from 5-10pm.

Sandhill Cranes

If you’ve experienced the Sandhill Cranes in Western Nebraska this time of year, you get it. If you haven’t, do yourself a favor and try it once. I’m not a bird photographer and have no desire to become one. However, seeing the Sandhill Cranes at dusk circling the Platte River is just plain insane. My suggestion to you is call the Rowe Sanctuary or Alda Nature Center and reserve a time in the morning or evening to sit in a duck blind. The cost is around $25.00, which gives you about 3 hours. The blinds are big and can hold 20-30 people.

Bring binoculars, warm clothes and a camera. Note to Camera geeks, you’ll want to have a lens that is at least 200mm-500mm and a monopod is helpful.

Migration Madness

We might not have the beach here in the Midwest, but we have four seasons with incredible wildlife happenings year-round. My intention was to photograph bald eagles since they’re all over the place along I-29 from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mound City, Missouri. My destination was Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Mound City, Missouri and to my surprise it was also the destination for hundreds of thousands of snow geese. I combined photography with some video to give you a feel of what it’s like. I never saw anything like this when living in San Diego. If you know people who appreciate the Midwest and it’s wildlife please share the video with them.

The Art of Photography

The one thing that never gets discussed in photography is choosing the right picture for a gallery print. It’s an art in itself.  The image above was taken last fall in Crested Butte, Colorado. What to do?
