Storm Upon

A nice little find off highway 6 west of Atlantic, Iowa. The pre-storm colors create a beautiful story here. Photgraphing in the midwest offers so much diversity with colors from seasons, storms and humidity.

Sandhill Cranes

If you’ve experienced the Sandhill Cranes in Western Nebraska this time of year, you get it. If you haven’t, do yourself a favor and try it once. I’m not a bird photographer and have no desire to become one. However, seeing the Sandhill Cranes at dusk circling the Platte River is just plain insane. My suggestion to you is call the Rowe Sanctuary or Alda Nature Center and reserve a time in the morning or evening to sit in a duck blind. The cost is around $25.00, which gives you about 3 hours. The blinds are big and can hold 20-30 people.

Bring binoculars, warm clothes and a camera. Note to Camera geeks, you’ll want to have a lens that is at least 200mm-500mm and a monopod is helpful.
