Chuck Close’s Brain Influences His Art

Chuck Close is a brilliant artist who also suffers from a condition called prosopagnosia or face blindness. It’s inspiring and a great story.

Chuck Close was a guest on Charlie Rose’s panel for the PBS host’s Brain Series. Beginning about 35 minutes into the video (though you’ll want to watch the whole thing) Close explains how his inability to recognize faces led to his art where he focuses on the artificiality of assembling an image by incremental units rather than the “realism” of a person’s face.
